Sina buys outdoor advertising operations.

Sina a large Chinese company with over 280 million users worldwide has purchased Focus Media's outdoor advertising operations for $1.8 Billion in stock! Wow website ads will be all over those media networks all over China. Chinese idn's should benefit from the exposure this will bring to websites in general in everyday citizens lives. I am sure the ads will be mostly in traditional Chinese characters or possibly different styles depending on the area, but rarely English outside of the main tourist areas. Bringing traditional media networks together with the internet will only help everyone involved, evolve. Read the article from the Shanghai Daily

China's Online Population almost 300 Million!

Great article at CircleID.com confirming China's online presence is larger than any other online market in the world and growing fast. This is a great confirmation that Chinese language domains will explode in use and value. Internet users outside of the urban areas are spurring the most growth at the moment, over 60% year on year comparison to urban users at 35+% which is still amazing growth during these trying times.

My prediction is that most Chinese internet users will focus on the .cn extension as it can be utilized using native Chinese characters starting this year!! I don't think the majority of Chinese citizens speak English and will focus on developing and utilizing the .cn extension in thier native tongue. When you buy a idn.cn you get the Chinese character versions as well. This doesn't happen when you buy any other extension, including .com, .net etc.
.cn will prove to be a sleeping giant, that is starting to wake up.

Avoid Trademark Names and Typos

As in the dot com world the same goes for buying domain names in any language. Do not buy any trademark names or similar variations of trademarked names. This will only bring potential problems which will probably cost you money fixing. Many millions have been made taking traffic from domain names that are trademark related. Hopefully this will stop and help toward cleaning up an industry that's image that has been tarnished.

Here's a quote from the ChinaDaily.com.cn News site.
"And according to the Supreme People's Court's judicial interpretation regarding domain name disputes, "domain names that confuse consumers distinguishing them from the well-known trademarks, commodities and service could be judged to be revoked, halted or changed".

While it is still a bit of the "wild west" out there on the internet, developing domain names in responsible, practical ways will only help improve everyone's experience and provide richer online interactions.
Developing a generic domain name is one of the best ways to create value in the domain name and the website. The sooner you move your domain name from a blank page or basic parking page the sooner you will start to create value.
There are some great ways to instantly start to develop your new domain name.

IDN Market and Strategy

Deciding which country and extension to focus on is a challenge. Looking at just numbers, China leads everyone. The government promotes the .cn . When you register a idn.cn you are given several domains. You register the idn.cn and you as well recieve the Chinese version, with the Chinese symbol on the right of the dot as well as the left! Pure Chinese! No English to confuse and limit access to the web. Giving people that don't speak or write in English the ability to speak and write in their own language is a huge step forward for opening up the web to everyone! Try and focus on generic, relevant words and phrases. There is a solid market for generic keyword idn.com's . I personally think once the idn.idn is fully implemented it will encourage many individuals and business' s to use the web idn.idn to market and create everything in their native languages!
My Tips
Idn.com - value in premium keyword or combo generic domains
Idn.Idn. - major potential in premium single and combo generic words and phrase
Idn.net- not really worth it, maybe if you have the .com and .idn

Solid Russian premium keyword market.  Focus on relevant generic words and phrases.
Same goes for the Spanish .com market, premium generic, relevant Spanish words and phrases. .com only maybe a few country extensions if you live in that country or if there is a large population.

Avoid trademark or potential trademark names.

Good potential as well with premium generic's in the :  English.cn domain's.
eg.
Bank.cn - that is a good one.
any premium English .cn will most likely turn out to be a great investment. Just focus on relevant words and phases.

more to come. ..

Evaluating Symbols for Domain Names in Chinese

There are a few sites that help you evaluate the meaning of a Chinese symbol. Google has a translation service that works ok. Babelfish works as well. One I really like is http://www.idn.bz . It is a great tool to help evaluate international domain names in all languages. Some of the best places to find idn domains are at dnforum.com and namepros.com. Good luck!

Chinese Domain Names and IDN Domain Names, News and Information.

Welcome to Chinese Domain Names. Focused on investment and development strategies and opportunites. Focusing mainly on China, the Chinese IDN market idn.cn will prove to be a huge opportunity for web development. The extension which is being promoted as the favoured one to use is .cn . When the web formalizes the implementation of IDN; individual Chinese will be able to type in their domain names in Chinese! Anyone in the world will be able to type in the symbol and or search string and find a website. With billions of Chinese starting to discover the internet, the opportunities to buy, create and develop websites in traditional Chinese is unlimited and have never been better.
